Online reviews of business.

I’m always a sceptic when it comes to online reviews of business.

I’m sure most people are. You know the old saying, if it sounds to good to be true, it probable is. Over the last few days there has been a bit of a story floating around the internet regarding a very well regarded eatery in the UK. Many glowing reviews posted online. Then low and behold, it finds itself being promoted as one of the top places to eat in that region. All good you reckon…. All except fo the fact, the establishment doesn’t really exist. Yup… No such place. Just a whole lot of positive reviews and feedback was all it took to skyrocket this non business to the top.

We’d be fools to think this doesn’t happen often. Certainly there are a number of  authors who have been caught out reviewing their own works under  assumed names. Just as certainly, there will be a lot of cases of negative feedback being heaped on businesses by people with either a vested interest in an industry or with a barrow to push for one cause or another. Our game will be no different. With photographers attempting to sabotage their oposition or promote their own business. It’s just the nature of the internet.

Recently I had the pleasure of listening to a speaker talk about social media marketing within the music industry. I’ll be honest, I’ve been around awhile, and reckon I  know a bit about what happens in the big wide world.. Truth is I’m a total novice. Honestly, I had no idea whatever about the lengths big business will  go  to “MAKE a STAR”.  From searching online for a suitable target.  To acquiring that person, and manipulating ever single event in their lives down to the most minute detail. Manufacturing which known stars will casually drop the new kids name during interviews. Growing audience, and leaking details to the media until, finally  a new super star is born…..

The term for us I believe is sheepeople. From the dodgy little  scammer making untrue claims online about his or her product to the biggest players you can imagine. We’re all being fleeced of our hard earned cash in some way shape or form. Our only defence is stay  alert.
